A sensory, three-voice synthesizer designed by Nyström Instruments in Sweden.

HUM 2 is a multitimbral digital synth built for playing with your hands, your body and the room around you. Three independent voices each get their own sound engine, sequence and touch pads. Six built-in sensors let you shape the sound by waving a hand over it, tilting it or dimming the lights.

Three voices, 14 engines

Sawtooth, Pulse, Basic Wave, three Wavetables, 2-Op and 3-Op FM, FM Pluck, FM Pad, Organ, Formant, Karplus and Glitch. Each voice runs its own engine, with dedicated Decay, Rand, Tone, Cut and Freq controls plus Loop and Chord switches. Turn Decay fully clockwise and the voice becomes a drone.

Generative sequencing

Three independent sequencers of up to 64 steps. Let them generate new phrases from the RYTM and RAND settings, or lock a pattern you like into a loop. Everything is quantized to the selected scale, from pentatonics and modes to microtonal, overtone series and just intonation.

Six sensors

Distance (0 to 40 cm), light, tilt X and Y, and two touch pads. Any sensor can be mapped to any knob, with adjustable depth and polarity.

Modulation and effects

Four assignable LFOs with six shapes and tempo sync. Delay, overdrive and reverb, with a global mix and per-voice sends.
